So this is how my last hour or so at work went. I had my latest OB appointment at 2. We ran through all the formalities that occur at every appointment such as vital signs, weight, any contractions, bleeding, nausea, pain, and so on. Again, my usual responses of "no, no, no and no" for each question asked. I knew next up would be fundal height measurement followed by heartbeat (I'm a pro at this by now). Down I go on the exam table so the doc can get a good measurement. "Hmmmm" she says. Now, we all know that nobody likes to hear "hmmmm" at a doctors appointment! Turns out her "hmmmm" was concerning my measurement. It seems I was measuring smaller than I had at my last appointment, which is not how things are supposed to go!
At this point I relocate to the ultrasound room where I proceed to lay down on another exam table and try to maintain all sense of calm. Afterall, I feel this baby move...a lot...and know that he must be doing ok if he is moving and jabbing me every chance he gets. Before the doc gets started she says to me "I'm going to check two things. First, I'm checking the baby's measurements since you are measuring smaller than you should. Second, I will check your fluid level. If one of these is not where we want it, then we are going to induce you today." HOLY CRAP! Now, I understand that this baby is supposed to eventually come out and I also know I've been saying I want this baby to come out, but I honestly think my heart stopped for a moment at the thought of this baby actually arriving sooner rather than later! I think in that 5 seconds I had to hear that, process it, and give some sort of garbled response, my entire laundry list of things to do pre-baby flashed before my eyes, not to mention the moment of "my gosh we are actually having a baby" settled in :)
Long story short (I guess it's too late for the "short"), baby measured at 6lbs 2oz which she was fine with (ultrasounds are an estimate and I believe this baby weighs a bit more in the 6lb range) and my fluid level checked out just fine. So why the smaller measurement? Who knows. I remain a mystery I guess! All I could think of was "whew...no induction." Not that I don't want to meet this little guy, but I really don't want to start this process from scratch. A pitocin induced labor is not exactly what I want, only if I need and right now it seems I don't need. I'll go back again next week and see where things are at that point.
And poor Carlos. I came home from work to find his cell phone on the countertop in the kitchen and he sitting outside upstairs on the patio. He immediately got the "you need to have your phone accessible at all times at this point because I can go into labor at any time. What if you missed it because you were sitting outside phoneless? I was almost induced and I wouldn't have been able to get a hold of you!" Don't you love how us prego women can go for the dramatic effect?! I think Carlos will even shower with his cell phone now :)

Finally February
36+4...do you know what this means? In just 3 more days my little guy will be considered full term. We did it! We made it through all those crucial pregnancy milestones happy and healthy. Now we can welcome him any time with open arms and lots of love without any worries that he has arrived too soon. Yay!!!!
My feelings on this are any time after Saturday he wants to meet us, he is more than welcome :) I have 24 more days until my due date, but I'm willing to NOT make it to the final day...or any day past! As I put on my Facebook page, Carlos put his bet on Feb 28 for the arrival and my money is on Feb 20 (due date Feb 26). We'll see! Of course I have no problems going into labor on Feb 7 (Monday...otherwise known in Guam as Super Bowl MONDAY because of the time difference). The way I see it as our OR schedule currently stands, I'm not going to be able to watch any of the game. However, if I am laboring on the mother/baby unit, then I can watch the entire game :) It's a nice thought, but I know it isn't going to happen! Go Steelers!
Let's see...what else to share...
On Sunday two friends here in Guam hosted a baby shower for me. It was so nice to be able to celebrate my first pregnancy and my little man, but it was hard not having any of my friends/family from the states there to celebrate as well. To quote Eunisia, one of my all time favorite patients, "such is life." I had a great time at the shower, ate some yummy food, celebrated with very nice gals, and Baby K received some great gifts. I really do think I'm going to have the best dressed baby boy on this island!
There is a pic of me below taken at the shower...I had just turned 36 weeks. There are a bunch more, but they were sent to me on Facebook and I haven't figured out how to save them from there to my Iphoto. If you have FB, go check them out there!
I'm still going strong at work, although I definitely tire out a lot faster. As crazy as this sounds, I prefer the really busy days at work where I am constantly moving in the OR and dealing with multiple cases lined up. The busier I am, the more tired I get by the end of the day and the better I sleep at night! I'm not so sure that's what I should be doing, but if it means good sleep then I'm all for it! The funny thing was yesterday it was Carlos' room that was busy and ran long. My own husband wore out his prego wife! My "retaliation" was informing him before the end of his case that I am too tired and therefore will not be cooking dinner :) And I stuck to it too! I came home and went horizontal on the couch.
As Carlos and I prepare ourselves for the unknown over the next few weeks, we will try and stay on top of our blog. I always try to do a weekly entry, but bear with us if we get a little off track! Kona is absolutely wonderful and smart, but his typing skills are a little sloppy with those big ol' paws or else I'd have him do entries for us :)
Enjoy some pics!

and the music plays on
Thanks to my darling husband, all I can hear over and over in my head is Europe singing "The Final Countdown." Hello 1980's. What started the continuous replay of this 80's classic was my realization at dinner that today is January 25th. I said to Carlos somewhat astonished that today is the 25th...and our baby is supposed to be here on Feb 26th. Holy cow! This is it folks!! So of course Carlos started singing "the Final Countdown" and now it is haunting me :)
With this little bit of time to go, of course now my mind is just spinning...do I have everything we need? Have I washed all the clothing and bedding? Is everything set up and ready to go? Do we even know what the heck we are doing?? Of course the answer to all of these questions is "no," but I say this knowing we have done as much as we can to prepare (including mental preparation) and at this point, the rest will just happen. We will continue to cross things off the list...and I'm sure we will continue adding new things to the list as well!
We do have a name for soon to be Baby K...ready for it? His name is _ _ _ _ _ :) I know, I know...that was just cruel, but it was fun for me and since I'm the one feeling like a small house, let me have my fun when I can :) Feel free to attempt to fill in the blanks though...we will not confirm or deny the name until he is here so guess away!
Other than the occasional minor freak out over the baby arriving next month, all Guam Kennedys are doing well. We are both busy at work, which is a nice distraction, but I will admit I'm wearing out much earlier than before. Baby K is just kicking away and Kona is enjoying his play time with his BFF, Donne.
Speaking of being worn out, it is 8pm and I am heading to bed. It was a long day in the OR for me!
Love to all back home!

A Much Needed Long Weekend
All I can say is, thank goodness for federal holidays. They seem to come around when that extra day off is needed the most and for that, I am most grateful! I'm sure I'll be singing the same tune next month as President's Day is VERY close to my due date!
I want to say that it was a busy weekend for the Kennedys, but I am beginning to think the word "busy" is all relative. I'm sure in my former life (and by former, I mean non-pregnant) I have done 10x as much in 3 days and never felt so exhausted, but lately I can't seem to keep up with myself physically and/or mentally!
Friday was such a busy day at work that by the time I got home (I could have walked out a little earlier than I did, but after I finally sat down in my office, the thought of moving again was not appealing), I said to Carlos "I'm either making cereal for dinner or you are driving us somewhere to eat because I am not going to be doing a darn thing in the kitchen tonight unless it involves getting ice cubes for my water." Needless to say, Carlos is not a 'cereal for dinner' kind of guy so he took me out to dinner...which is how I knew it would turn out when I presented the options :)
On Saturday, I was beyond elated when a woman I was interviewing for a housekeeping job was everything I was looking for. We met Saturday at the house and I was quite happy with her, and her rate. We just have too much house to keep up with since we both work and I'm obviously not able to do all that I previously could. It has been my mission since arriving in Guam to find someone to clean and now I may shed tears of joy over finally finding her. She starts Wednesday so I specifically did not clean this weekend so that I can see how good of a job she does :) Following the interview, Carlos and I went off to the NEX (Navy Exchange) to get a few needed items and then met up with some friends for a couple rounds of bowling. Yes folks, bowling :) It truly was a lot of fun. I started off my 1st game with a strike, but quickly went downhill after that. I was beat by everyone in game 1. Game 2 however, I made a small improvement and at least did not come in last place...I beat Kai...a 20 month old boy (he didn't play in game 1) :)
Sunday started our day by watching a very stressful football game as soon as we woke up, but the Steelers were victorious in the end! We spent most of our afternoon/evening at a fish bbq. Friends of ours had gone fishing on Saturday and caught 6 Mahi and 1 Wahu so they had a spur of the moment bbq to eat up all this fresh fish! I haven't had fresh fish since arriving in Guam, and it truly doesn't get any more fresh than that. They grilled it up and we had fish tacos or just hunks of fish and it was soooooooooooooo good. Fishing in Guam is actually quite easy (so I've heard). The fish are plentiful and practically just jump into the boat. It's even better when other people catch it, prep it, and grill it for you! Sunday turned into a late night so by the time we got home, I had enough energy left to brush my teeth and call it a night. I was quite thankful for another morning to sleep in!
However...Kona had other plans for me. Around 5am he came to my side of the bed and kept whining, which is not usual behavior for him that early. You may all think I'm crazy, but this dog and I are in sync so I immediately knew he was about to have some bathroom issues. Down the stairs and out the door we went and stayed for the next 20 minutes while he pretty much exploded. I went back to bed following this escapade, but tossed and turned for the next few hours. When I woke up again, I realized that I too am not 100% as I woke up with a head cold. So other than doing the grocery shopping while Carlos went diving, most of my day today has been spent on the couch sneezing and blowing, while Kona lays on the floor next to me without any kind of appetite, but at least the "exploding" has stopped. My poor pup!
I'm not sure how many more busy, busy weekends I'll have in me, but I'm certainly not complaining, just enjoying all the great things I have the ability to do with the stamina I have to do them!
I hope everyone out there had an equally enjoyable weekend (minus the illness)!

Who sunk the Tokai Maru & the Cormoran or "something like that"
Missy wanted me to write a post so I figured I would write about my last dive. I went out to Apra Harbor....we can see it from our house. Its the only industrial harbor and center for Naval traffic on Guam. The harbor is about 1-3 feet in some places and has channels over160 feet. Nice coral and looks very healthy as there is not much by way of industrial economics trash getting pumped out. Interesting thing is back during World War I the germans managed to have something to do with Guam....don't know what they hell they were doing way over here but one of their cruisers managed to get sunk getting by an american submarine right there in the water about a ninety to hundred plus feet down. Most of her hull completely intact. Fast forward a few months to World War II and the japanese invade Guam take the harbor and start trying to crank out the war machine across the pacific. History says they left a nice big freighter/container ship on silhouette. In the whooping that ensued by allied forces, another US sub sneaks into the harbor and sinks this one as well. By chance it happens to be right next to the Cormoran. So you have these two massive ships one still with depth charges in her bow sitting barely touching one another. Both completely intact. I have done quite a few dives now and I can say they were so massive that the Tokai Maru sat listing on her port side which made me feel like I was sliding down into the no mans land in depth. No worries though cause the dive computer kept me safe but my brain kept telling me I was swimming side ways. Weird feeling but seeing the ships and knowing the history was quite spectacular. There are may relics sitting on the bottom in the harbor and one could spend alot of time checking them out.... but not too much time since your air quickly runs out when you are that deep. If you are lucky you can squeeze about 30 minutes of bottom time at that depth. Great experience.
