and the music plays on
Thanks to my darling husband, all I can hear over and over in my head is Europe singing "The Final Countdown." Hello 1980's. What started the continuous replay of this 80's classic was my realization at dinner that today is January 25th. I said to Carlos somewhat astonished that today is the 25th...and our baby is supposed to be here on Feb 26th. Holy cow! This is it folks!! So of course Carlos started singing "the Final Countdown" and now it is haunting me :)
With this little bit of time to go, of course now my mind is just spinning...do I have everything we need? Have I washed all the clothing and bedding? Is everything set up and ready to go? Do we even know what the heck we are doing?? Of course the answer to all of these questions is "no," but I say this knowing we have done as much as we can to prepare (including mental preparation) and at this point, the rest will just happen. We will continue to cross things off the list...and I'm sure we will continue adding new things to the list as well!
We do have a name for soon to be Baby K...ready for it? His name is _ _ _ _ _ :) I know, I know...that was just cruel, but it was fun for me and since I'm the one feeling like a small house, let me have my fun when I can :) Feel free to attempt to fill in the blanks though...we will not confirm or deny the name until he is here so guess away!
Other than the occasional minor freak out over the baby arriving next month, all Guam Kennedys are doing well. We are both busy at work, which is a nice distraction, but I will admit I'm wearing out much earlier than before. Baby K is just kicking away and Kona is enjoying his play time with his BFF, Donne.
Speaking of being worn out, it is 8pm and I am heading to bed. It was a long day in the OR for me!
Love to all back home!

A Much Needed Long Weekend
All I can say is, thank goodness for federal holidays. They seem to come around when that extra day off is needed the most and for that, I am most grateful! I'm sure I'll be singing the same tune next month as President's Day is VERY close to my due date!
I want to say that it was a busy weekend for the Kennedys, but I am beginning to think the word "busy" is all relative. I'm sure in my former life (and by former, I mean non-pregnant) I have done 10x as much in 3 days and never felt so exhausted, but lately I can't seem to keep up with myself physically and/or mentally!
Friday was such a busy day at work that by the time I got home (I could have walked out a little earlier than I did, but after I finally sat down in my office, the thought of moving again was not appealing), I said to Carlos "I'm either making cereal for dinner or you are driving us somewhere to eat because I am not going to be doing a darn thing in the kitchen tonight unless it involves getting ice cubes for my water." Needless to say, Carlos is not a 'cereal for dinner' kind of guy so he took me out to dinner...which is how I knew it would turn out when I presented the options :)
On Saturday, I was beyond elated when a woman I was interviewing for a housekeeping job was everything I was looking for. We met Saturday at the house and I was quite happy with her, and her rate. We just have too much house to keep up with since we both work and I'm obviously not able to do all that I previously could. It has been my mission since arriving in Guam to find someone to clean and now I may shed tears of joy over finally finding her. She starts Wednesday so I specifically did not clean this weekend so that I can see how good of a job she does :) Following the interview, Carlos and I went off to the NEX (Navy Exchange) to get a few needed items and then met up with some friends for a couple rounds of bowling. Yes folks, bowling :) It truly was a lot of fun. I started off my 1st game with a strike, but quickly went downhill after that. I was beat by everyone in game 1. Game 2 however, I made a small improvement and at least did not come in last place...I beat Kai...a 20 month old boy (he didn't play in game 1) :)
Sunday started our day by watching a very stressful football game as soon as we woke up, but the Steelers were victorious in the end! We spent most of our afternoon/evening at a fish bbq. Friends of ours had gone fishing on Saturday and caught 6 Mahi and 1 Wahu so they had a spur of the moment bbq to eat up all this fresh fish! I haven't had fresh fish since arriving in Guam, and it truly doesn't get any more fresh than that. They grilled it up and we had fish tacos or just hunks of fish and it was soooooooooooooo good. Fishing in Guam is actually quite easy (so I've heard). The fish are plentiful and practically just jump into the boat. It's even better when other people catch it, prep it, and grill it for you! Sunday turned into a late night so by the time we got home, I had enough energy left to brush my teeth and call it a night. I was quite thankful for another morning to sleep in!
However...Kona had other plans for me. Around 5am he came to my side of the bed and kept whining, which is not usual behavior for him that early. You may all think I'm crazy, but this dog and I are in sync so I immediately knew he was about to have some bathroom issues. Down the stairs and out the door we went and stayed for the next 20 minutes while he pretty much exploded. I went back to bed following this escapade, but tossed and turned for the next few hours. When I woke up again, I realized that I too am not 100% as I woke up with a head cold. So other than doing the grocery shopping while Carlos went diving, most of my day today has been spent on the couch sneezing and blowing, while Kona lays on the floor next to me without any kind of appetite, but at least the "exploding" has stopped. My poor pup!
I'm not sure how many more busy, busy weekends I'll have in me, but I'm certainly not complaining, just enjoying all the great things I have the ability to do with the stamina I have to do them!
I hope everyone out there had an equally enjoyable weekend (minus the illness)!

Who sunk the Tokai Maru & the Cormoran or "something like that"
Missy wanted me to write a post so I figured I would write about my last dive. I went out to Apra Harbor....we can see it from our house. Its the only industrial harbor and center for Naval traffic on Guam. The harbor is about 1-3 feet in some places and has channels over160 feet. Nice coral and looks very healthy as there is not much by way of industrial economics trash getting pumped out. Interesting thing is back during World War I the germans managed to have something to do with Guam....don't know what they hell they were doing way over here but one of their cruisers managed to get sunk getting by an american submarine right there in the water about a ninety to hundred plus feet down. Most of her hull completely intact. Fast forward a few months to World War II and the japanese invade Guam take the harbor and start trying to crank out the war machine across the pacific. History says they left a nice big freighter/container ship on silhouette. In the whooping that ensued by allied forces, another US sub sneaks into the harbor and sinks this one as well. By chance it happens to be right next to the Cormoran. So you have these two massive ships one still with depth charges in her bow sitting barely touching one another. Both completely intact. I have done quite a few dives now and I can say they were so massive that the Tokai Maru sat listing on her port side which made me feel like I was sliding down into the no mans land in depth. No worries though cause the dive computer kept me safe but my brain kept telling me I was swimming side ways. Weird feeling but seeing the ships and knowing the history was quite spectacular. There are may relics sitting on the bottom in the harbor and one could spend alot of time checking them out.... but not too much time since your air quickly runs out when you are that deep. If you are lucky you can squeeze about 30 minutes of bottom time at that depth. Great experience.

8(ish) weeks
Happy New Year everyone! I still find it hard to believe that 2011 is actually here. Even more so, I find it hard to believe this baby is going to be making an appearance in roughly 8 weeks. I say roughly because one never knows for sure when babies will actually come!
I am 32+2 weeks today and was given plenty of reassurance this baby (and mama) are right on par with our timeline. I had a follow up appointment in OB (I'm still fortunately on the one appointment every 3-4 weeks schedule, although that will change after my next appointment on the 24th and I will probably be on the weekly plan after that). The provider I saw said my fundal height measurement is spot on as well as baby's heartbeat. She said I'm doing all the right things in terms of exercise and how much weight I've gained thus far (a total of 18lbs over the course of these past 32 weeks...and let me tell you...I feel every single one of those pounds some days) and told me to keep up the exercising, but to try and take it easier while at work since I'm on my feet a lot. This is hard to do, but of course I will try! Every mom-to-be loves to hear that she is doing right by her baby. I just hope the next however many weeks is as kind to me as the past 32. Oh, update from my previous post concerning my lack of sleep: although i still wake up a number of times throughout the night, I have been able to fall asleep and stay asleep for longer periods of time which is making me quite happy :)
In the meantime, Carlos and I are just trying to do all that we want to do before our freedom becomes limited. We still have baby stuff to take care of over the next few weeks, but we spent the past weekend kayaking and enjoying the Guam sunshine. My plan for the next weekend or two is to find a few boonie stomps (Guam hikes) that won't be terribly difficult for a pregnant lady. There are so many great hikes on this island with beautiful final destinations that I just want to get out there and go play!
I'm attaching a picture of Carlos practicing his daddy skills. Thankfully the baby will be a bit easier to rock than Kona :)
